Novel Urinary Biomarkers of Orange Juice Consumption, Interindividual Variability, and Differences with Processing Methods

نویسندگان

چکیده

Untargeted metabolomics identified urinary biomarkers able to discriminate between the intake of fresh hand-squeezed and industrially processed orange juices. Processing led an upregulation in excretion hydroxy-polymethoxyflavone sulfates, abscisic acid, sinapic acid 4′-glucuronide. The demethylated polymethoxyflavone metabolites were produced with a significant interindividual variability suggesting that they could originate from gut microbiota metabolism. No correlation levels flavanone was observed, showing metabolism differences be behind variability. Subjects high level hesperetin conjugates low or excretors. Flavanone phase II primarily glucuronides, while those polymethoxyflavones mainly sulfates. A comparative study available standards suggested humans tentatively 4′-hydroxy- and/or 3′-hydroxy-polymethoxyflavone This is first describe bioavailability citrus juice humans.

Influence of grapefruit-, orange- and apple-juice consumption on urinary variables and risk of crystallization.

Alkalizing beverages are highly effective in preventing the recurrence of calcium oxalate (Ox), uric acid and cystine lithiasis. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influence of grapefruit-juice and apple-juice consumption on the excretion of urinary variables and the risk of crystallization in comparison with orange juice. All investigations were carried out on nine healthy female...

Urinary biomarkers of meat consumption.

BACKGROUND Meat intake has been positively associated with incidence and mortality of chronic diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, and several different cancers, in observational studies by using self-report methods of dietary assessment; however, these dietary assessment methods are subject to measurement error. One method to circumvent such errors is the use of biomarkers of dietary i...

Investigation of cytokines, oxidative stress, metabolic, and inflammatory biomarkers after orange juice consumption by normal and overweight subjects

BACKGROUND Abdominal adiposity has been linked to metabolic abnormalities, including dyslipidemia, oxidative stress, and low-grade inflammation. OBJECTIVE To test the hypothesis that consumption of 100% orange juice (OJ) would improve metabolic, oxidative, and inflammatory biomarkers and cytokine levels in normal and overweight subjects with increased waist circumference. DESIGN Subjects we...

Orange juice and cancer chemoprevention.

Orange juice (OJ) is among the most consumed fruit juices worldwide, and its chemopreventive action is fairly addressed in the literature. This review critically presents the available evidence linking OJ with cancer chemoprevention and on discussing the putative mechanisms and negative health effects. The chemopreventive action of OJ is related to its effect on metabolic enzymes and its antiin...

Effect of orange juice intake on vitamin C concentrations and biomarkers of antioxidant status in humans.

BACKGROUND Consumption of fruit and vegetables is associated with improved health and a decreased prevalence of chronic degenerative processes. OBJECTIVES The objectives were to assess the bioavailability of vitamin C from orange juice and its influence on plasma vitamin C and 8-epi-prostaglandin F(2 alpha) (8-epi-PGF(2 alpha)) concentrations in a healthy human population. DESIGN Six men an...
